Welcome to the homepage of the
Samoset Middle School Band
Welcome to the 2020-2021 School Year!
Video of the Week
"Toccata & Fugue in D minor" composed by Johann Sebastian Bach for organ. In this video it is performed by the world-renowned Canadian Brass ensemble.
SMARTMUSIC is Coming!
Samoset Band will continue to use SMARTMUSIC this year. This online resource will help motivate you during your practice time at home.
SmartMusic contains exercises, solos, pop music, movie soundtrack songs. Search for music and play along with the melody line or just the accompaniment. You can choose a section to repeat, change the tempo, listen to your part being played, record yourself and let SmartMusic show you how you did!

Band Rehearsal in the Age of Masks & Social Distancing
State guidelines suggest 12-foot spacing for band instruments. Unfortunately, few rooms are large enough to hold our rehearsals with that distance, so we will start the year a little differently than before. Until the guidelines are changed, Band rehearsals will be held without instruments. Weekly lessons will allow for playing and, of course, practicing at home will be required as usual. More details will be given in rehearsals, but please be patient and stay positive as we work together to adapt to our new environment.
Scale Challenge
The Scale Challenge is reset for the new school year! For every 2 Major Scales you memorize, you win a prize! The more you learn, the better the prize.
Looking for Inspiration?
Here are 5 tips to get you going:
1. Take Online Private Lessons from a Professional. Learn tips and tricks for playing your instrument at a higher level.
2. Go to a virtual concert. There is nothing like hearing LIVE music to get you motivated to practice!
3. Figure out how to play your favorite song on your instrument...by ear! That's right, don't go searching for the sheet music -- use your natural talents. Try a pop song, or movie theme...maybe even a commercial jingle!
4. Get online with your friends and play...anything! Like most things in life, music is more fun when you play with others.
